Our Story
Em & Mẹ
Em means “little one.” Mẹ means “mother.” Spelled backward, Em becomes Mẹ. We are inspired by the vibrant flavors of Vietnam, and the warmth of family.
When we say Em, we think of the younger one, the little darling, the next generation in the family. When we say Mẹ, we think of mom, her voice in the kitchen, the smell of her cooking, the way she makes everything feel like home. Spell Em backward and there she is, Mẹ, a mirror of past and present. What mom has given us, we carry, and everything we have today still holds a part of her. And just as her touch shapes our home, our dad shaped our table. He was the main chef of our little café in Vietnam. He was not a man of words. He grew up in a big family, shaped by hardship and war, and his love language was the cups of coffee and the small bites he prepared for the people he loved and cared for. Coffee and the kitchen were the languages he knew by heart. He showed love with his hands, in the way he brewed, in the way he cooked, and in the quiet way he took care of us. His lessons, his passion, and his way of loving live in us and in every cup we pour and every bite we share.
This café is a place where tradition meets new, where Vietnamese coffee and bites carry memory with a gentle twist from the next generation. Every cup and every bite tell a little of where we come from. It is mom’s comfort and dad’s craft sitting side by side, the way our immigrant family carried old roots into a new world. Their struggles became our strength. Their sacrifices became our foundation. The cups they made in scarcity became the flavors we celebrate today. Em and Mẹ is past and present gathered at one table, with our memories in each cup, and when you step inside and share a seat with us, you help bring a new story to this café.
